Your hosts, Barbara and Murray Matthews, share a passion for the flora and fauna of New Zealand. Their love of gardening and the environment is evident through their beautiful Condell Gardens, which encompasses both native trees and shrubbery, and the bright blooms of roses and rhododendrons among others.

They are interested in heritage buildings and love their 100-year-old character home. Barbara is a qualified botanist and keen gardener, embroiderer, bell ringer and bird watcher. Murray, a sixth-generation Kiwi, is an environmental chemist and nuclear technology specialist who until recently worked in the disarmament area at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Through their extensive travel within New Zealand and internationally, and their European experience, Barbara and Murray appreciate diverse cultures and enjoy sharing their interests and experience with people from different countries. They look forward to welcoming you to Christchurch.

Condell Gardens is located just a ten minute drive from Christchurch International Airport and city centre, and is on a direct bus route. Complimentary airport transfers are available. There are many amenities close by and those who really want to explore Christchurch are welcome to borrow bicycles and head into the city via the Northern Cycle Path, which leads safely from the suburbs through Mona Vale gardens and Hagley Park into the central business district, with minimal traffic interaction.

On Creyke by Campus is situated in the suburb of Fendalton, directly opposite the Creyke Road entrance to the University of Canterbury. It lies on a direct bus route to the city and is within easy walking distance to Fendalton Shopping Centre where there is a supermarket, pharmacy, post office, medical centre and other shops/services. It also lies in close proximity to Ilam Gardens and Riccarton Bush, as well as the Westfield Riccarton shopping centre.
